Committee Meeting

  • There was a Committee meeting prior to the regular monthly meeting.
  • It was agreed that the Club’s funds were sufficient to enable some spending on books for the Library. Agreed to purchase "Sixty Years with Bees" by Donald Simms, and to renew subscriptions to "Gleanings (Bee Culture)" and to "American Bee Journal"
  • Name tags for use by members attending meetings to be arranged.
  • The Club will arrange a subsidy for members attending the training weekend during 1998 at Pohangina Valley.
  • Additional teaspoons and badges to be ordered as stocks running low.

September 97

  • The meeting was attended by 36 members and visitors (incl committee).
  • Invitation received to attend Trianon Belgian Blues field day in Whitemans Valley on Sun 9th Nov. Frank & Mary Ann will be there with bee display.
  • Registrar of Incorporated Societies wrote seeking copies of 95 & 96 accounts
  • NBA advised of change of address for Club’s copy of NZ Beekeeper.
  • Advice was given on two forthcoming field days.
  • Ivan Pedersen commented that the mild winter had enabled some of his hives to collect surplus which had been harvested. This is generally not a wise approach as bees may run short of feed in October/November.
  • Richard hatfield has a number of hive kits for sale, and Naenae College has a number of recycled plastic drums for honey.

Olaf John from Wellington Botanical Society gave a slide presentation showing various bush, garden, alpine and coastal shrubs and plants of interest to beekeepers. He named and briefly outlined the characteristics of each plant.

Meeting closed at 9:30 pm with supper.
