MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE WELLINGTON BEEKEEPERS ASSOC. INC. HELD IN THE JOHNSONVILLE UNION CHURCH HALL, JOHNSONVILLE ON MONDAY 10 JULY 2000 AT 7.30 PM.

PRESENT : Richard Hatfield (Pres.), Mary-Ann Lindsay (Treas.), John Burnet (Sec.) and 22 members and visitors as listed in the attendance book.

APOLOGIES : Bernie Cox, Ray Baker, Peter Radcliffe, Bill Allan, Jeff Pollard, Les Solomon, Amor Walter, Pam McDowell, Gary Murphy, Wayne Wild.

MINUTES OF 1999 AGM : Minutes of meeting held 9 August 1999 were read and confirmed (Frank Lindsay/James Scott).

MATTERS ARISING:

DECA Training - two training sessions only organised not three as originally proposed.

Auditor - the auditor appointed by the new committee was Lynn Cherry.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT : Read and accepted (John Burnet/Ernst Segessenmann - Carried).

TREASURER’S REPORT : Cliff Hulston outlined contents of his Feb 2000 letter to President expressing his concern over accuracy of financial accounts for year ended 31 May 1999 and selection of auditor. James Scott suggested formation of a sub-committee to specifically review and check 1999 financial accounts - sub-committee to report back to special general meeting by Sept. (Andrew Beach/Ernst Segessenmann). Sub-committee will comprise Richard Hatfield, James Scott, Cliff Hulston. Financial accounts for year ended 31 May 2000 to be suspended unpublished pending outcome of review. Proposal carried unanimously.

Mary Ann Lindsay circulated copies of 31 May 2000 Receipt/Expenditure Report and Balance Sheet and answered various questions from members. Members requested the minutes show their appreciation to Mary Ann for her time and effort as Treasurer over the past year.

SUPPER ORGANISER : Volunteers to be sought at each meeting

All positions carried by general meeting acclamation.

SUBSCRIPTION: Unchanged from last year i.e. $20 with $5 rebate for members electing to receive monthly newsletter by email in lieu of mail. Proportion of B/L fund contribution to remain at $5.(James Scott/Cliff Hulston - Carried).

B/L PAYOUT : $60 being 50% of standard hive cost. One claim received. Future claims must be received by 1 June each year, will be authorised by June Committee meeting and ratified by AGM in July. Evidence must be copy of annual return to MAF or Certificate of Inspection (Richard Hatfield/James Scott).

WEBSITE : To be continued for a further year - cost $50. (James Scott/John Burnet). Members expressed their appreciation to James for this time consuming and ongoing role.

DECA : 23 & 25 members had taken the course to date with club subsidising $25 per member from the B/L fund. Two further courses over 2000/2001 were planned with same subsidy available for financial members as at 31 May 2000 provided they had not previously attempted the exam. i.e. subsidy available to club members for one sitting only (Richard Hatfield/James Scott).

CONSTITUTION : Past President agreed to review club constitution and report to Special General Meeting by Sept with proposed changes/suggested updating.

BANK ACCOUNT SIGNATORIES : Treasurer and any one of President, Vice President, Past President or Secretary.

ALMONER : Andrew Beach

OTHER GENERAL BUSINESS :

Upper Hutt Science Festival - Additional support was sought for club stand on Sat 22 July.

NBA Conference in Gisborne - Remits included : varroa eradication/control issues, Map grid references, apiary sizes and definitions.

Varroa - Cabinet decision expected on Wed 12 July. Control option likely to be preferred over Eradication option due to likelihood of success and risk of sabotage. Cost of control discussed in particular Apistan vs Formic Acid.

NBA NATIONAL EXECUTIVE : Congratulations were extended by all members to Richard Hatfield on his recent election to the NBA executive.
